New York (The Verge) — The broadband industry loves bullshit names theverge.com/2019/2/5/18212….
The broadband industry has always loved terrible, misleading names. Now, with the latest wave of 5G E, 5G TF, and 10G branding from companies like AT&T, Verizon, and big cable conglomerates, it isn’t showing any sign of slowing down — no matter how ridiculous the names are.
Your internet provider thinks you’re dumb. Between fake “unlimited” plans, bogus fees, and simply not providing promised speeds, companies like Verizon, AT&T, Comcast, and Spectrum have been using questionable claims and branding to spin their customers for years. Now, as we approach an era of faster mobile and wired internet speeds, recent marketing antics show that this kind of insult to your intelligence is only going to get worse. — Chaim Gartenberg/@verge
