Taylor Swift’s “You Need To Calm Down” Single Takes Aim At Internet Haters

Fresh from her surprise performance at Stonewall Inn, Taylor Swift just released the official music video of her latest single, “You Need To Calm Down”.

The song takes aim at internet haters, telling them, in various gay vernacular, to take several seats.

And speaking of gay, she enlists prominent figures in the LGBT community — like RuPaul, Billy Potter, Todrick Hall, social media personalities, and select alums of “RuPaul’s Drag Race” (with Jade Jolie as Taylor Swift) — including big celebrities (who are active on social media) like Katy Perry and Ryan Reynolds.

Taylor Swift is a straight cisgender woman, is she appropriating and cashing in on gay lingo? Does it matter?

Last Friday, she also appeared on RuPaul’s show in a pre-recorded video message.

At the writing of this article, the video is currently clocking in at 1.2 million.
