Los Angeles, CA – Moving Dreams Studios has announced the SoCal Premiere of Neelu Bhuman’s “Transfinite” at the Outfest Los Angeles LGBTQ Film Festival. Bhuman conceived of the project and commissioned scripts from trans and gender non-conforming writers of color, directing the tales themself which blend science fiction, multilingual poetry and hand-painted watercolor animations in a vibrant and playful display of strength. The seven-story omnibus features a number of trans and gender non-conforming actors including Outfest alums Harmony Santana (Gun Hill Road) and D’Lo (Looking, “Sense8″), as well as Carmen Moore (Drunktown’s Finest), Blossom C. Brown (Case Management), Tina D’Elia (The Pursuit of Happyness) and more.
“…imagines a poetic space of infinite possibilities and tells unique stories about trans people by trans people themselves”
— Solzy at the Movies
Transfinite screens in Los Angeles at OutFest as a special program on the 3rd annual Trans Summit Day at the TCL Chinese Theater July 27th. The cast and crew will be available throughout the festival for press opportunities.
Transfinite is the first feature film by director Neelu Bhuman, an immigrant filmmaker based in London and the Bay Area. To date, the film has screened at festivals in Boston, Seattle, Toronto, India, San Francisco and Amsterdam, where it picked up the 3rd Place Audience Award.
In Neelu Bhuman’s wholly original omnibus – composed of several stand-alone magical realistic short stories written by a collective of trans and gender-nonconforming people of color – supernatural trans and queer people from various cultures use their powers to protect, love, teach, fight, and thrive. The protagonists, like smooth warriors, choose to find their inner power and use it to transform rage, resentment and frustrations into a beautiful garden. All the seven stories, Najma, Asura, Shayla, Bahari, Nova, Maya, Viva, written by seven trans and queer writers with myriad backgrounds reflect this singular vision and the cohesive sensibility is designed by the filmmaker using exquisite poetry, subtle VFX, sublime animation and enveloping music.
Most of us have been in situations where we feel completely powerless and deeply frustrated with the unfairness of it all, sometimes we have lost control of life and sometimes we find a way to use our rage, resentment and frustrations
to grow a beautiful garden. In Transfinite, the protagonists, like smooth warriors, choose to find that inner power and use it to transform undesirable situations into desirable ones in a snap. Transfinite is a somewhat dark and funny, visually
and musically expressive sci-fi feature length film made up of seven standalone stories that are connected by the common thread of power – power to protect, power to love, power to teach, fight and thrive. All the seven stories, NAJMA,
ASURA, SHAYLA, BAHARI, NOVA, MAYA, VIVA, written by seven trans* writers with varied backgrounds reflect this singular vision and the cohesive sensibility is designed by the filmmaker using exquisite poetry, subtle VFX, sublime animation and enveloping music.
