Los Angeles, CA – Esplanade Pictures in conjuncture with Milton Ventures Media and 5 Child Productions have announced the SoCal Premiere of Doug Spearman’s From Zero to I Love You at the Outfest Los Angeles LGBTQ Film Festival. Doug Spearman (Hot Guys with Guns, Outfest 2013) directs his “Noah’s Arc” co-star Darryl Stephens (“Boy Culture”, The Skinny) and Scott Bailey (“The Bay”, Prayers for Bobby) in this funny, bittersweet romance that grapples with the hang-ups and pressures gay men contend with when it comes to identity and love.
“From Zero to I Love You” will screen at Outfest Los Angeles at the TCL Chinese Theatre and at the Harmony Gold July 27th. The cast and crew will be available throughout the festival for press opportunities.
Of his sophomore directorial feature, Spearman shared, “I wanted to tackle a classic, complicated, star-crossed romance. My mom loved these movies and raised me on them – Breakfast at Tiffany’s, Back Street, Now, Voyager, The English Patient, Far From Heaven, Pride and Prejudice. I want to put my stamp on this genre.
…the positivity that Spearman packs into his story that makes this movie a sheer joy to watch— QueerGuru
…refreshing in its complications…that rare thing – a high stakes romcom— Gay Essential
Especially for an LGBTQ audience. I remember how impactful it was to sit in a theater and see Daniel Day Lewis kiss a man for the first time in My Beautiful Launderette. Even with the recently won rights and seemingly more acceptability of gays and lesbians, we still live in a time where most of our appearances in the culture are based on stereotypes or other people’s expectations and guess work of who we are and how we live.
We live at a time when technology and society have made it so much easier to tell these kinds of stories and move gay people from the edges to the center of a film. It’s an exciting adventure and a way to continue to raise the bar for American LGBT love stories.”
