The state's Inclusive Curriculum Bill now mandates coverage of LGBTQ history in K-12 textbooks purchased for public schools.
On Friday, Illinois reclaimed a bit of its history as a leader on LGBTQ rights by becoming just the fifth state in the U.S. to adopt an LGBTQ history curriculum in schools. Gov. J.B. Pritzker signed the much-anticipated measure into law. Illinois follows only California, New Jersey, California, Colorado, and Vermont in passing similar measures.
