Seven months ago, “RuPaul’s Drag Race” alum Kimora Blac was enlisted by World of Wonder (WOW) to co-host a gag web series entitled “WAIT, WHAT?”, where she and another co-host and Drag Race alum talk about various topics while she plays the common knowledge-challenged co-host — capitalizing on her similar self-portrayal on the ninth season of the reality television competition show. The web series — which is available on WOW's YouTube channel and streaming service, WOW Presents Plus — has so far produced twelve episodes, and has featured Drag Race royalties like the gorgeous Mariah Balenciaga and the highly opinionated and viral Jasmine Masters.
The web series is funny and sometimes cheesy — a drag staple — but it's when Derrick Barry (a fellow Vegan, a world-famous Britney Spears impersonator and star of the eight season of Drag Race) joined her when things really went overdrive.
Perhaps it's because both Queens were portrayed as “airheads” in their season is why their dynamic comes across as a harmless casual banter rather than someone schooling the other. But Drag Race storyline aside, their collaboration works. They've got chemistry, and their comedic timing is just right. Derrick has already appeared in four episodes.
The funniest bit between the two so far is the “Physical Education” episode where the two tackle fitness. The forty-second video clip of the duo jogging in the woods in full drag is hilarious. It's all green screen, obviously. But the fact that the “special effects” are so out of sync with their jogging, and a prop came out of nowhere, just made everything even funnier. It didn't matter what they did, the trail kept moving forward… even when Derrick stopped to give Kimora a piggy back ride!
It's the perfect premise for a series starring these two Queens. Think “Romy and Michele's High School Reunion” (1997) or “Simple Life” starring Paris Hilton and Nicole Ritchie? Almost like that but different.
Watch the whole episode and have a hearty laugh.
