(Logo ) — Bosnia held its first Pride parade this weekend, in capital Sarajevo with several thousand turning out to march amid threats and under heavy security.
Thousands took to the streets in what was the last Balkan country to hold a Pride parade.
About 1,000 police officers were on hand, including anti-sniper units, after threats were made online by conservative Muslim groups, Reuters reports. There were no incidents of violence, with the parade ending peacefully.
“I have always thought that basic human rights should exist for all and when I saw all those hate comments against the Pride march, I felt it was my obligation to come and show support,” said a woman, referred to only as Sanja, who marched with her husband.
